When you need reliable legal representation in Newmarket, Ontario, Judi Simms Paralegal Professional Corporation is the firm York Region residents have trusted for over 30 years. Judi Simms is a licensed paralegal, a member of the Law Society of Ontario, a full member of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, and has served as President of the Paralegal Society of Canada since 2008. That combination of credentials and community standing is rare — and it means Newmarket clients receive representation grounded in deep, current legal expertise.

At Judi Simms Paralegal, we believe that quality legal support should be accessible, clear, and genuinely client-focused. Our motto — Service First — is not just a tagline. It is the standard we hold ourselves to every day, for every client.

Why Newmarket Residents Choose Judi Simms Paralegal

Newmarket is a community in transition. Once known primarily as a quieter bedroom community north of Toronto, the town has evolved into a dynamic hub within York Region — attracting young families, newcomers to Canada, small business owners, and an increasingly active real estate market. With that growth comes a greater and more varied set of legal needs.

Whether you are a new Canadian family navigating the immigration system for the first time, a small business owner pursuing a commercial dispute in Small Claims Court, a landlord managing rental properties in Newmarket’s competitive housing market, or a tenant seeking to understand your rights under new provincial legislation, Judi Simms Paralegal has the experience and the resources to help.

Our international network — including partnerships with agencies in Romania, Moldova, Hungary, and Iran — and our connections to educational institutions both in Canada and abroad mean we are uniquely positioned to serve Newmarket’s growing newcomer community and its international students.

Our Services for Newmarket Clients

Immigration Law

Newmarket’s population has grown significantly in recent years, with a rising number of newcomers, international students attending nearby institutions such as Upper Canada Mall-area colleges and Georgian College’s Barrie-to-GTA corridor, and families working to reunite with loved ones still abroad. Our licensed immigration consultants provide comprehensive, compassionate support for every stage of the Canadian immigration journey.

We assist Newmarket clients with:

  • Permanent residency and Express Entry applications
  • Provincial Nominee Programs (all provinces and territories)
  • Spousal and parental sponsorship
  • Parent and grandparent Super Visas
  • Student visas and study permits
  • Temporary resident visas and permits
  • Work permits and LMIA applications
  • Refugee and humanitarian and compassionate claims
  • Pre-Removal Risk Assessments (PRRA)
  • Detention reviews
  • Immigration appeals before the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court of Canada
  • Citizenship applications and PR card renewals
  • Revocation of landed immigrant status

Immigration law is rarely straightforward. Processing times shift, policies change, and individual circumstances can complicate even routine applications. With over 30 years of experience and a team that includes a fully licensed immigration consultant, we know how to navigate the unexpected — and how to advocate effectively when things do not go according to plan.

Small Claims Court

Ontario raised the Small Claims Court monetary limit to $50,000 on October 1, 2025 — a significant change that has expanded the range of disputes now eligible for this venue. For Newmarket’s growing community of entrepreneurs, tradespeople, contractors, and service providers, this means more business disputes can now be resolved through Small Claims Court without the cost and complexity of Superior Court litigation.

At the same time, the court is placing greater emphasis on professional representation, thorough documentation, and evidence-based proceedings. Going it alone — particularly on claims approaching the new $50,000 limit — carries real risk.

Judi Simms Paralegal provides experienced Small Claims Court representation for Newmarket clients, including:

  • Case evaluation and honest assessment of your prospects
  • Preparation of claims, defences, and all supporting court documentation
  • Evidence gathering, organization, and strategic presentation
  • Representation at settlement conferences, motions, and trials
  • Mediation and negotiated settlement support

Whether you are pursuing an unpaid debt, seeking compensation for faulty workmanship, defending against an unfair claim, or resolving a contract dispute, our team will build a strong, well-documented case on your behalf.

Landlord and Tenant Matters

Newmarket’s rental market has grown steadily alongside its broader population. Basement apartments, townhouse rentals, and investment properties are increasingly common throughout the town, and with that growth comes a rising number of landlord and tenant disputes requiring formal resolution before the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB).

Ontario’s rental laws were significantly updated with the passage of Bill 60 in November 2025. These changes have real implications for landlords and tenants in Newmarket, and acting on current, accurate information is essential:

  • Landlords may now apply to the LTB for eviction due to non-payment of rent within 7 days of serving an N4 Notice — the previous window was 14 days
  • Fixed-term leases no longer automatically convert to month-to-month tenancies at expiry, giving landlords the opportunity to renegotiate lease terms
  • Landlords issuing an N12 Notice for personal use are no longer required to provide one month’s rent compensation, but must provide 120 days’ notice to the tenant
  • The LTB appeal period has been shortened from 30 to 15 days
  • Stricter evidence requirements and shorter processing timelines mean both parties must be better prepared than ever before

Our team stays current on all LTB legislative developments so that Newmarket clients can act quickly, correctly, and with confidence.

Our landlord and tenant services include:

  • Preparation and review of all LTB forms and notices
  • Lease agreement review and advice
  • Representation at all LTB hearings
  • Guidance on eviction proceedings and tenant defences
  • Advice on rent disputes, maintenance obligations, and quiet enjoyment issues

Additional Legal Services

Newmarket clients can also access our full range of supplementary services, all delivered with the same professionalism and attention to detail that defines our firm:

  • Notarization — certified notarization of affidavits, statutory declarations, and official documents for legal, business, and personal use
  • Commissioner of Oaths — Judi Simms is a Commissioner of Oaths and can administer oaths and verify documents across all forums, with trained support staff providing accessible, timely service
  • Translation Services — professional document translation for immigration, legal, business, and personal purposes, formatted to meet official requirements and avoid processing delays
  • Contract Review and Negotiation — practical guidance on contracts for small business owners, tradespeople, service providers, and individuals entering into significant personal agreements
  • Mediation — Judi Simms holds certification in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of Windsor Law School and offers professional mediation for business disputes, civil matters, and family conflicts, helping parties reach mutually acceptable solutions without the cost and delay of formal proceedings

For Newmarket’s growing small business community in particular, our contract review and mediation services offer a practical, cost-effective alternative to lengthy litigation.

Frequently Asked Questions from Markham Clients

Can you help me if my immigration application was refused?2026-04-06T14:27:49+00:00

Yes. We represent clients at all levels of immigration appeal, including before the Immigration and Refugee Board’s Appeals Division and, where necessary, the Federal Court of Canada. If your application has been refused, contact us as soon as possible — appeal deadlines are strict and missing them can close off your options entirely.

I am a landlord in Newmarket. How quickly do I need to act after serving an N4 Notice?2026-04-06T14:27:36+00:00

Under the changes introduced by Bill 60 in November 2025, you may apply to the LTB for eviction as early as 7 days after serving the N4 Notice, provided the rent has not been paid. Given the LTB’s stricter evidence requirements, it is important to have your documentation in order before filing. We can help you prepare a complete, well-supported application.

What should I bring to my first consultation?2026-04-06T14:27:22+00:00

Bring any documents relevant to your matter — contracts, correspondence, notices, court documents, immigration paperwork, or lease agreements. The more context you can provide, the more useful and specific our advice will be at that first meeting.

I am a small business owner in Newmarket. Can you help with a contract dispute?2026-04-06T14:27:09+00:00

Absolutely. Small business disputes — unpaid invoices, breach of contract, faulty goods or services — are among the most common Small Claims matters we handle. With the new $50,000 limit, many disputes that previously required more expensive legal proceedings can now be resolved through Small Claims Court. We will assess your situation and advise you on the most practical and cost-effective approach.

Do you serve clients in Aurora, East Gwillimbury, and Bradford?2026-04-06T14:26:56+00:00

Yes. While our office is in Richmond Hill, we serve clients throughout York Region and beyond, including Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Stouffville, and surrounding communities.

How far is your office from Newmarket?2026-04-06T14:26:43+00:00

Our office is located at 41 Regent Street in Richmond Hill, approximately 20 to 25 minutes south of Newmarket via Highway 404 or Yonge Street. We also accommodate consultations by phone and email for clients who prefer not to make the trip for an initial discussion.
